Castaway Sands Cottage

MAJOR UPDATES AND RENOVATIONS 2022, this cozy, vintage cottage is just steps from beach access in the North End of Virginia Beach. With four spacious bedrooms and two and a half baths, this house easily accommodates multiple families! With a newly designated "work from home" room and new bedding configurations, the 3rd floor loft stays a favorite with two full beds and three twin beds. A large screened in porch, indoor gathering space and dining room table will be part of memories for years to come! The house has central air conditioning, a washer/dryer, dishwasher, wireless internet, and flat screen TVs. Castaway Sands Cottage is located just a mile north of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, close to the hustle and bustle but removed enough to still have a relaxing vacation on quieter beaches.

Set close by North End beach access, this family friendly location is a prestigious neighborhood that is treasured by locals and known for it's quiet and less-crowded beaches. Not only is this home just a short walk from the beach access, but it is also within a short distance to First Landing State Park, a prime location for hiking, biking, kayaking, and more! You are also just a short 5-10 minute drive from the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

Pets are welcome, with deposit.  Please see city regulations for dates and times for allowance of pets on the beaches.

City health regulations limit occupancy to 3 persons per bedroom. Bedding represents flexibility in sleeping, not occupancy.

Linens and a toiletry starter pack are included in this rental!
Linen package includes fresh sheets and pillowcases for each bed and a towel set for each guest. Towel sets include: 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 wash cloth. Additional linens can be rented through our in-house linen company if desired.
Basic toiletries include: 3 rolls or bath tissue for each bathroom, 3 rolls of paper towels, 3 tall trash bags, and kitchen towels. Guests are responsible for any additional supplies if needed.

EPA certified cleaning products used with provided cleaning service!

  This property was very clean with great location. though the bathrooms were quite dated two out of three bathrooms did not flush but we temporarily fixed it to work and tank lid was cracked. Kitchen was well stock though I wish they had a big stainless steel boiling pot, we could not boil pasta for 8 people.Over all we enjoyed our stay very much with minor problems which can be easily fixed.we all had great time.

While this house is older it’s functionality and location was perfect! The rental agency was wonderful to work with. We loved having two fridges! Only recommendation would be to replace the one living room chair, it was like there was a ball inside it.

  This house offered more than enough room for 9 of us. We needed a rental last minute for just 3 nights and this home was wonderful for our needs. Extremely close to the beach and within walking distance of boardwalk and restaurants.   Some issues with this property:
  1-people from outside can see through all window shades at night when light is turned on
  2-the bathroom between two rooms was stinks. It could be pet urine. We had to wash both small drugs and the smell get better.
  3-the king size mattress was too old
  4-parking space was not clear. We almost needed to fight for parking space and luckily that we had only one van.

  The best part of this vacation was the walking distance to the beach. There wasn't alot of parking because there were others in the unit behind us but overall out stay was great. The air conditioning unit on the 2nd and 3rd floor needs to be updated. A new unit was installed on the 1st floor and it was the only part of the house that was cool. On the 2nd and 3rd floor it was sweltering hot! We were sweating all day when on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Otherwise this was a good vacation.

But the ceiling tiles in dining area, living room and one bedroom have been water stained for four years and need replaced.   Overall our stay in Virginia Beach was very nice,the house had lots of room and the staff at Anchor Realty was great.
  
  The house did however leave a little to be desired, it was very "lived in", the furniture was used hard and there were even a few broken pieces. The wireless internet was up and down. The garbage outside was overflowing when we arrived, the cans were lined up aside and directly behind the house from the permenant tenants who live out back. This unfortunately caused an abundance of flies which got into the house, we did however find a fly swatter. There is absolutely no yard because the permanent tenants out back use it as their parking lot as well as the driveway right next to the rental property which left no place for the kids to play and caused a dangerous situation when they pulled in and out, there were probably a total of 5 cars back there all the time. We had to pull the grill out into the driveway to use because of the car parked on the lawn. It rained 1 day and this caused palomino bugs to come in the house (they are ugly "roach" looking things) which we had never seen before. If you have family members coming from different areas there is a limited amount of parking, there is room for 3 cars directly in front of the house.
  
  It was very convenient to the beach only about 1/2 block away and we did have a very nice time despite all the little blemishes.

  This was our first time renting a house and we loved it. I wish there was a paved path to the rear door where the hose and outdoor shower was so we could rinse off sand before going in, though. The kids would've been more compliant I think (they didn't like walking on the gravel drive). But, hey - there was an outdoor shower!! The enclosed patio for smoking was perfect. We loved our evenings out there. We will definitely do this again!

  Castaway Sands is the perfect house if you have a large group. We used it as a base for our family reunion so we had people coming and going! It is just a short walk to the beach, making it very convenient to go back and forth. We also had 4 little girls that loved playing and sleeping in the loft. To name a few: the downstairs bathroom was not working, the freezer on either fridge does not work, the 2nd refrigerator does not work, and most importantly, the outdoor shower does not work - which led to sand being dragged into the house. I was told a plumber would come by Monday to fix this, but he never did. If these things were taken care of, the house would be a great stay.

  This is a lovely home. The location is great. It is a very short walk to the beach and also very close to First Landing State Park. The house is undergoing renovations-all new windows and a unpdating of the main bathroom had been completed. We experienced problems with some of the electrical outlets however, which detracted from our trip. Because of this Anchor Realty comped us some of the rental charge. We found Anchor Realty to be very professional about dealing with our concerns and we look forward to doing business with them in the future.
